April is STD Awareness Month by WCTV.tv


Tallahassee, Florida --April 1st kicks of STD Awareness Month.
There are more than 19 Million new STD infections every year, and almost half of them among young people age 15 to 24 years old according to the CDC.
Common STD's on college campuses include, HPV, chlamydia, gonorrhea, and herpes.
FSU's health center, like many other campuses, offers free testing and information.
Director of Thagard, Dr. Celeste Paquette said, "We try to teach kids a little more about what puts them at risk... If they do choose to be sexually active, you know, get testing ahead of time, for both partners... use protection."
While Dr. Paquette said abstinence is the best way to protect yourself against STD's she said there are ways to protect yourself if you are sexual active.
